Jaime Camil and Sandra Echeverría talk about their roles and director Diego Kaplan’s throwing out words for Camil’s character, who has some Tourette syndrome. Which is a balancing act when you are dealing with bipolar, schizophrenic and manic disorders.

Busco Novio Para Mi Mujer U.S. Premiere

busco novio para mi mujer 2016Busco Novio Para Mi Mujer (Seeking Boyfriend for My Wife) has some funny stuff going for it. Sandra Echeverría (Dana) is wonderful as the nagging and nitpicking wife to Arath de la Torre’s (Paco) character. Jesús Ochoa who plays “El Taiger,” an unlikely well-known neighborhood lothario that is hired by Paco (de la Torre) to whisk his wife (Echeverría) off her feet and out of the marriage.

Arath de la Torre described the “Taiger” character as a metaphor, like an angel who comes to help their relationship. Both actors do theater but love doing films much more, because film lives on forever.

Echeverría, who is a producer on film, joked that Arath is Mexico’s Jim Carrey. Since he’s very happy making films in Mexico and not in a hurry to make a change or a move into the U.S. film world.

Sandra Echeverría breaks in with “Savages”

From Mexican soap operas to Oliver Stone, in one dizzying step

We’ve been a little conflicted about Oliver Stone’s latest project, Savages. On the one hand, it’s the only big-budget project this summer that has any significant number of Latinos in major roles–Benicio del Toro, Demián Bichir, and Salma Hayek–and a large number of other Latino actors, from the well known like Mía Maestro to the unknown–at least in the U.S.

On the other hand, virtually all this wonderful talent is pointed in the wrong direction: towards crafting extremely convincing and effective portraits of Latino drug lords, manic killers, and victims. In a summer when there are so few Latinos in so few movies, it’s sad to say almost all of them relegated to a single film, stuffed with the least attractive stereotypes we can think of. Latinos at the Movies, Summer 2012 Blockbuster Edition: a long, dry season

A report from midsummer: a dozen blockbusters already here or on their way…and not a Latino lead or significant supporting character to be seen.

There’s been a lot of talk about the number of Latinos on TV arriving in the fall of 2012…but at the same time we’ve missed a different and far less positive story that’s already well underway: the almost complete absence of Latinos in lead roles in any of 2012’s summer blockbusters.

Think about the big-big movies you’ve already seen, mega-hit and flop alike: The Avengers, Dark Shadows, Battleship, Men in Black 3, Snow White and the Huntsman, Prometheus. Then think about the ones still to come: The Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises, Brave, Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, The Bourne Legacy, Total Recall. None of these summer blockbusters for 2012–not one–have Latinos in significant roles–not in the lead, not even in a large supporting role with the exception of Martin Sheen  as uncle Ben in The Amazing Spider-Man.

Sure, you can comb through the cast lists on imdb and see a few Latinos buried in there (for instance, Nestor Carbonell as the mayor of Gotham in Dark Knight Rises, or Jesse Garcia and Walter Perez as S.H.I.E.L.D. techs and pilots in The Avengers), but–with no offense to the actors–these are way, way down the cast list.  And those few hard-to-find names are all you’ll find, no matter how hard you look.

That’s not to say Latinos are entirely invisible in theaters this summer. We’ve already seen What to Expect When You’re Expecting, with Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, and Rodrigo Santoro in May, though, honestly, it came and went so quickly it was barely noticed. Yvette Yates did a fine job in the small independent, El Gringo, and Eva Mendes, Cierra Ramirez and Eugenio Derbez, among others, gave very sweet performances in Girl in Progress as well, but Girl–like every other theatrical release in may–was smashed by The Avengers, with the longest legs in history. It was a full month before people stopped going back to see that superhero epic for the fourth or fifth time, and every film released in for weeks after its premier, from romcom to actioner, was lost in the tidal wave. Besides, these films–good or bad, well-received, or panned–were small films, meant to fill in the breathless weeks between blockbusters, and the point is those blockbusters were totally lacking in Latino talent. Sandra Echeverría: a beautiful woman on the edge

Sandra Echeverría is on the edge of making it big in the USA. The beautiful young woman is already a star in Mexico; she was the star of Marina, a popular telenovela on Telemundo and the hugely successful Univision telenovela La Fuerza del Destino; she’s had hit songs as part of the musical group called Crush, and even had a hit with the Destino’s theme song–a duet with Marc Anthony. And she was one of the stars of 2033, the first major science fiction epic financed and filmed in Mexico.

But that’s all last year’s news. Now Sandra Echeverría has signed on as the newest U.S. Brand Ambassador for Neutrogena, joining an impressive group of beautiful women encompassing a wide range of ethnicities and ages: Jennifer Garner, Vanessa Hudgens, Diane Lane, Hayden Panettiere, Emma Roberts and Gabrielle Union, to name just a few.
