The Beekeeper is Action! Action! Action!

If you are looking for action, The Beekeeper does not disappoint. This action thriller with a bit of slasher thrown in is quite entertaining. Read what Lina Fubar has to say about it below.

I loved The Beekeeper when I thought it’ll just be another OK action movie. The tug of war of generations kept me interested in the story while the nostalgic action movie directing really made me reminisce being forced to watch Steven Seagal movies as a kid. The Beekeeper was shot with a lot of SHOCK factors and fun fighting scenes that kept me invested. I definitely recommend watching this movie with a dad with a watch history of The Expendables and Tropic Thunder.

Synopsis: In The Beekeeper, one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as “Beekeepers.”

Starring Jason Statham, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, with Phylicia Rashad and Jeremy Irons. And directed by David Ayer.

In theaters now. ** NOT FOR CHILDREN **

Don’t Fix It If It Ain’t Broke! Why A MUSICAL!

A conversation between @dash_beaudee, Joce, Ali and Se Fija! after watching fifteen minutes of the new Mean Girls.

What the heck!!! Unfortunately Mean Girls was not what we were expecting.

They made Karen (Avantika) so painfully dumb it was insulting. For a moment I thought the character was high. Bebe Wood (Gretchen) didn’t fit her role much either, she was trying to play a mild airhead but we felt like she was literally reading her lines!

The only characters we thought fit the original ones, were Cady (Angourie Rice), Janis (Auli’i Cravalho), and Damian (Jaquel Spivey).

While Reneé Rapp is a wonderful actress, especially in Sex Life Of College Girls she did not do Regina George any justice.

The way we saw it was, they were in high school and Regina was over sexualizing herself which again didn’t make any sense at all!

And why the heck did we need it to be a musical! After watching it for 15 minutes it was clear that we were being delivered line for line from the original movie in musical form and it was PAINFUL. Unfortunately it only took us 15 minutes to say no more and unfortunately walked out.

Angela (Se Fija!), Ali, Joce and @dash_beaudee.

The best scene in those 15 minutes was literally the opening scene. The makeup was also a bit questionable as well while I’m (@dash_beaudee) aware that we’re all about expressing ourselves and makeup has no rules and it’s meant to express ourselves there are limits and when you apply 3 different things. For example: graphic liner bright blue/frosty eyeshadow, and gems all to one look, it clashes.

The best thing I can say is, don’t fix it if it ain’t broke! There was no reason to have re-made this movie.

This is a movie I would rather wait till Paramount has it on the app to watch for free.

Also starring Christopher Briney, Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Tina Fey, and Tim Meadows. Screenplay by Tina Fey. Directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. And produced by Lorne Michaels and Fey.

Night Swim Limped Out for Us

My niece Lina Fubar and I watched Night Swim on Wednesday evening, we were up for a good horror film.

The Night Swim story plot was interesting, there was a good opportunity for a fantastic scare fest. It had a few good scary jumps. But parts of it felt flat. If they do a sequel, it will have to out shine this one. The film is in theaters now.

Synopsis: Secretly hoping, against the odds, to return to pro ball, Ray persuades Eve that the new home’s shimmering backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for him. But a dark secret in the home’s past will unleash a malevolent force that will drag the family under, into the depths of inescapable terror.

Starring Wyatt Russell, Kerry Condon, Amélie Hoeferle, and Gavin Warren. Directed by Bryce McGuire. Produced by James Wan and Jason Blum. —A.O.

Hasta Encontrarlos (Till’ We Find Them) A Documentary

It’s a really interesting documentary short. It makes you sad, hopeful then it brings out the anger, after listening to what these families have been doing and going through for so many years.

Hasta Encontrarlos, is a documentary short film done by 23 year old filmmaker Jean Chapiro, who won a Student Academy Award for this short. She is a journalist and filmmaker from Mexico but based in the U.S. Her documentary follows the tireless search of the Salcedo and Córdoba families to find their missing loved ones in Mexico.

Hasta Encontrarlos (Till’ We Find Them), Since 1964 over 290,000 people have disappeared in Mexico and over 110,000 have not been found. Thousands of people across the country are still looking for their loved ones, especially mothers who will not rest until they find their children. Three years after her daughter, Rubi, went missing in Orizaba, Veracruz Mexico, Araceli Salcedo decided to start a collective in her own community. Today there are over 350 members in the group, and 90% of them are mothers. Together they have successfully found 15 people alive, returned 71 bodies, and spotted 53 clandestine graves in the past year. However, most of these women have not found their children. One of the coping and healing mechanisms that Araceli created for the mothers in her collective are muñecos sanadores or “healing dolls”. The dolls represent each of their children and serve as a tool to help them navigate the void that their loved ones left behind.

I Truly Wanted to Love This Film

By Lina Fubar

A Knock at the Cabin, an interesting movie that lacked my interest. The story was as dull as the characters were stale. Although the movie fell flat, I must say, it was beautifully shot and with a little more elbow grease the concept of the movie would have been captivating.

Synopsis: While vacationing at a remote cabin, a young girl and her parents are taken hostage by four armed strangers who demand that the family make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse. With limited access to the outside world, the family must decide what they believe before all is lost.

Knock at the Cabin stars Dave Bautista (Dune, Guardians of the Galaxy franchise), Jonathan Groff (Hamilton, Mindhunter), Ben Aldridge (Pennyworth, Fleabag), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Persuasion, Old), newcomer Kristen Cui, Abby Quinn (Little Women, Landline) and Rupert Grint (Servant, Harry Potter franchise). Directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

The screenplay is by M. Night Shyamalan, Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman, based on the national bestseller The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay.

In theaters February 3rd by Universal Pictures.

American Masters: Roberta Flack

This new film tells Roberta Flack’s story in her own words, it features exclusive access to Flack’s archives and interviews with Reverend Jesse Jackson, Clint Eastwood, Yoko Ono, Angela Davis, Eugene McDaniels, Joel Dorn, Peabo Bryson and more.

American Masters: Roberta Flack follows the music icon from a piano lounge through her rise to stardom. From “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” to “Killing Me Softly,” Flack’s virtuosity was inseparable from her commitment to civil rights. The film provides an intimate look into Flack’s artistry, life and triumphs over racism and sexism within and outside of the recording industry.

I think this is a great documentary on an amazing talent. Her sound makes everything feel so intimate.
