Award-winning actor and activist Edward James Olmos brought together some of Hollywood’s finest on October 8th to celebrate the arts and promote California’s Proposition 38, which would increase education spending. Among those in attendance were Olmos’ daughter Daniela Olmos and his son Michael D. Olmos who directed the Sundance hit Filly Brown with Youssef Delara.
Celebrities, producers, directors and advocates convened on the red carpet at the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles before enjoying a screening of Filly Brown.
Dressed to impressed were the movie’s leading stars including Gina Rodríguez who plays María José “Majo” Tonorio a.k.a. Filly Brown. She expressed her initial enthusiasm for the script and even rapped a couple of lyrics to the delight of reporters. Sharing his concern about the lack of educational funds and the importance of the arts was Lou Diamond Phillips. The notable actor, writer and director portrays José Tonorio in the film.
