It was a good evening for all, at the 18th Annual National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) Impact Awards Gala. Roselyn Sanchez (Devious Maids) and Lisa Vidal (Being Mary Jane) were the evening’s masters of ceremonies.

This year’s awards recipients were; actors Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine Nine), Jon Seda (Chicago PD), Carlos Ponce (Cristela) and Golden Globe winner, Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) for Outstanding Performance in a Television Series. Director of A Book of Life, Jorge R. Gutierrez accepted the Outstanding Direction in a Motion Picture award. Beatriz Acevedo of MiTú, Inc., a media company and digital multi-channel network operator, was giving the first Outstanding Innovation in Social Media award.

The evening’s most emotional moment came when actor/director Andy Garcia gave a special tribute to his dear friend, actress Elizabeth Peña who passed away last year.

Latinos All Around: Three NBC Series (with Latinos in the mix) will be Crossing Over in ’14

Chicago PD cast

Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will be sharing plots and principle players

Monica Raymund and Jesse Spencer
Chicago Fire

First came Law and Order, then Law & Order: SVU, with Danny Pino and a host of other impressive talent. Then, from another direction, we saw Chicago Fire, with Monica Raymund and Jon Seda and again–many other impressive people. Finally, this season NBC has added Chicago PD, a spin-off of Fire with some of the same cast–including Seda. And now, it seems, they’re all in it together.

Law & Rrder: SVU Raul Esparza, Dann Florek, Kelli Giddish
Richard Belzer, Ice-T, Mariska Hargitay and Danny Pino

There have been crossovers between Fire and PD since the first episode of the new series. NBC announced at the recent Television Critics Association conference in Pasadena that these crossovers would expand to include the L&O universe as well, with a crossover coming in February, when the SVU team comes from New York to Chicago to pursue an interstate fugitive. And there’s more in the works. “There is going to be a major crossover at the end of the season, a story that is so big it involves everybody,” creator Dick Wolf told reporters.

It remains to be seen just how much Seda, Raymund, Pino and the other Latinos in all the productions will be involved in the special events, but it can only be good news: more chances for more actors to do even more work, more recognized.

We’ll let you know as details emerge.
