Latina Producer Goes Indiegogo for “Her Collections”

Crowdfunding can be great–and a huge challenge. But Latina producer Joanna DeLane Maldonado is brave enough to take that path as a way to finance her feature, Her Collections, a story about hoarding. She chose Indiegogo for the task, she’s looking for $10,000, she’s got a little over two weeks left. Check out her video on the project as http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/her-collections. And good luck to her!

Nothing on TV…Let’s Go to the Movies!

Basketball and reality TV are clogging the Friday schedule, but there are a few Latinos on the silver screen starting Friday. The Spanish retelling of Snow White, Blancanieves, that we talked about here opens in LA. And New York …Mateo Morales is part of the ensembles in Dog Pound, with a limited opening…Violeta Went to Heaven, a critically acclaimed and unconventional biopic of iconic Chilean folk singer, poet and artist Violeta Parra…and of course Eva Mendes is central to A Place Beyond the Pines, opening wide (check out the Daily Show interview with her, here.)

Eva Mendes Talks to Jon Stewart about “A Place Beyond the Pines” (and so much more)

Jon Stewart does one interview a night on the Monday-to-Thursday The Daily Show, and generally favors political heavyweights and superstars. So it’s a pretty big honor to get on that list…and it was a pleasure to see Eva Mendes, talking just a bit about her new movie, A Place Beyond the Pines, appearing on the Wednesday March 27 show. She was as beautiful and charming as ever, especially when she talked about her earlier less successful days on film (as well and Stewart’s own acting…issues?). Enjoy this clip from Comedy Central:

An Exclusive Conversation with Patricia Rae of “The Big Wedding”

On April 26, The Big Wedding will appear in movie theaters across the country, starring some major names in movie history: Robert De Niro, Susan Sarandon, Diane Keaton and Patricia Rae. Though born in Manhattan and raised in Queens, Patricia won’t be speaking a word of English in this marriage-based rom com.

Patricia’s been a bright light in Latino Hollywood for more than a decade, with appearances in movies like Maria Full of Grace and Swimfan, as well as high-end TV series from The Closer and Chuck to–most recently–Blue Bloods and Touch. So Wedding is a big deal, and even better, it was–in her own words “a dream job.”

We had a chance to sit down and talk with Patricia about the role and her work in general (and this is just the first part of a longer conversation we’ll share soon). Check it out below…

“Psych” Celebrates 100 Episodes this Week

Impossible to believe, but James Roday (Rodriguez) and the rest of the cast have actually produced one hundred episodes of Psych for USA Network. #100, appropriately named “100 Clues,” is airing Wednesday at 10P. You can count the number of series–especially cable series–on far less than a hundred fingers–and Psych continues to be as weirdly hilarious and self-referential at 100 as it was at 1. Congrats all the way around!

New “Modern Family,” “Nashville,” “SVU,” “Chicago Fire,” “Southland” this Wednesday

The spring hiatus is over and the last run of new shows has begun. That’s why we’re seeing new episodes of Modern Family with Sofia Vergara and Rico Rodriguez at 9P on ABC, then at 10P, catch Jay Hernandez on Nashville on ABC, Danny Pino in NBC’s Law & Order: SVU at 9P, and Monica Raymund, Joe Minoso among others at 10P on NBC. Over on TNT, Jos Viramontes and Carmen Corral guest star on Southland at 10P.

Mario Lopez + Gabriel Iglesias = Good Conversation

Stand-up comic Gabriel Iglesias–he’ll always be “fluffy” to us–has been staging a quiet little revolution of his own on Comedy Central for quite a while now. After a series of very successful concert shows, he’s showcased the work of many other stand-ups, Latino and otherwise, in Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand-Up Revolution. He was also visible in Magic Mike, and he’s just recently been announced as one of the voices for Pixar’s newest feature, Planes, along with fellow Latino voice genius/comedian Carlos Alazraqui Now, on Tuesday evenings, he sits down with Mario Lopez on Lopez’ Mario Lopez One on One, at 8P on NuvoTV. They’re calling it candid, intimate and revealing. It’s certain to be fun as well. Here’s a preview, click here.
