“Gangster Squad,” “A Haunted House,” “Copacabana” on DVD this Tuesday

Michael Peña, like Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, and everybody else in this picture, got a pretty raw deal. After much publicity, the release of this ultraviolent crime drama was postponed because of a mass shooting, pushed into the new year and anonymity, and then pulled from theaters almost before it began. Now, without much noise, it appears on DVD. Though the critics called it “superficial” and “uninspired,” the folks that saw it actually seemed to like it. Now’s your chance. Again. Then we have Marlene Forte, Marlon Wayans, Cedric the Entertainer and others, in A Haunted House, a horror spoof from the creators of Scary Movie and “Paranormal Activity” franchise—It was written by Rick Alvarez and Marlon Wayans. And it looks like there’s A Haunted House 2 in the works. And we have an oldie too, Copacabana with Carmen Miranda and Groucho Marx.

Cote de Pablo on KTLA Morning News (and Online)

Cote de Pablo makes an appearance on The KTLA Morning News on Tuesday morning, April 22. And even if you’re not in the L.A. Market, you can catch the talk with the talented Latina star of NCIS; on the local station live-streams the whole show here from 4A to 10A Pacific Time. Chances are it will show up on its normal web site shortly thereafter, too. That’s at www.ktla.com.

“The Voice,” “Revolution,” “Castle” New on Monday

Three of network TV’s strongest shows, all with Latinos in the cast, have new episodes on Monday: Shakira and many of the contestants continue to charm on The Voice, and Christina Milian serves as social media correspondent at 8P on NBC. And JD Pardo and Daniella Alonzo in the post-apocalypse world of Revolution at 10P on NBC. Over on ABC at 10P, Jon Huertas never fails to thrill as part of the team on Castle.

“Secret Life,” “Bates Motel” New on Cable Monday

It may have been cancelled, but it’s not dead yet: Francia Raisa rides Secret Life of the American Teenager all the way to the end at 8P on ABC Family, while Nestor Carbonell is the creepiest Sherriff ever in Bates Motel at 10P on A&E.

Mark Consuelos is a Key Player in Amazon’s New Pilot, “Alpha House,” Online Now

Amazon.com announced a few months ago that they were getting into the original content business to further bolster their share of the instant-video market they share with (among many others) Netflix and Hulu. And they were as good as their word: late last week they offered up fourteen different half-hour pilots, both kid shows and grown-up comedies, for everyone to see and vote on.

The quality and cleverness varies widely, and for the most part the target demographic is young and affluent. That’s reflected both in the concepts for the shows and the casting; it is predominantly young and white, with a smattering of people of color…and Mark Consuelos.

Yara Martinez

Consuelos is a key player in what is arguable one of the best of the Amazon offerings, Amazon House, starring John Goodman. He plays a young and randy U.S. Senator who comes to share quarters with three other elected officials, including Goodman, in a wry and deeply cynical take on politics and power in modern-day Washington. Yara Martinez also guest-stars as his lover/PAC Manager, in what could easily become a recurring character if the show is greenlighted. Both of them, by the way, smart and powerful Latino characters…if just the teeniest bit corrupt (like everyone else in DC). All of it is just about what you’d expect from the mind of Garry Trudeau, the legendary creator of Doonsebury.

Here’s the trailer; you can watch the entire show, rate it and leave a comment at no change, no strings, on amazon.com, here.

Latinos on Lifetime: “Army Wives,” “Client List” and Ryan Lochte on E, New on Sunday

As usual, original programming on the cable outlets is as friendly (maybe more so) than the networks. Tonight, Lifetime shines with Joseph Julian Soria and Alyssa Diaz on Army Wives at 9P and Marco Sanchez guests on Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Client List at 10P. And for those reality show lovers, What Would Ryan Lochte Do? Premieres on E at 10P. The show centers around five-time 2012 Olympic medalist, swimmer Ryan Lochte’s life with friends, family and more.

“Once Upon a Time,” “The Good Wife” and “The Mentalist” New on the Nets Sunday

Lana Parrilla is as beautiful, talented, and sinister as ever as the Evil Queen on Once Upon a Time, new at 8P on ABC. At nine, also on ABC, Alexis Bledel stars in the TV movie Remember Sunday. Over on CBS, Makenzie Vega is part of the family in The Good Wife at 9P. Then on The Mentalist, Chelsea Rendon (A Better Life) guest stars at 10P on CBS.

NBC Pulls Longoria’s “Ready for Love” and Replaces it with “Grimm”

Eva Longoria

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Eva Longoria has been working on her matchmaking show Ready for Love for a long time; the theory was to spend less time on the crazies and the on-camera stunts and a lot more on real romance and matchmaking.

But America has voted, and the results are not good. After a disappointing first week, and an even greater slide in subsequent shows, NBC has pulled Ready for Love from the post-Voice Tuesday night schedule. Starting April 30, Grimm will take its place (after a already-planned two-hour Voice) and stay there through season’s end in late May. It’s not quite clear what will happen next Tuesday, April 23, but it’s either RFL’s last appearance or we’ve already seen as much as we’ll see…at least for now. (The fate of the remaining episodes–Saturday burn-off? Online? Never to be seen again?) has yet to be announced.

Besides Longoria’s involvement, two of the three bachelors at the center of the show were Latino. That didn’t seem to have anything to do with the lackluster performance; the fact is every network has tried to mount a clutch of dating shows to duplicate ABC’s success with The Bachelor and its spin-off, but no one’s had any long-term success (compared to the singing and dancing competitions, where plenty of the Johnny-Come-Latelies have seen some significant success).

Regardless, Longoria’s still got plenty on her plate. She’s exec producer of Lifetime’s Devious Wives, premiering in June; she’s filming the border-war drama Frontera with Michael Peña and Ed Harris, and she’s producing a documentary called Food Chains that features, among others, Dolores Huerta and Hilda Solis. Not to mention her snack food commercials…

More on the future of Ready for Love if and when it’s announced.

Aimee Garcia on “Vegas,” Bertila Damas on “Grimm” the Only New Network Episodes on Friday

Lots of game shows, reality shows, and news shows…and two standout Latinas, the lovely and talented Aimee Garcia on Vegas at 9P on CBS, opposite Bertila Damas as the intriguing, all-Spanish-speaking “Pilar” on Grimm on NBC.

In Theatres: “Filly Brown,” “Lords of Salem,” “Cheech and Chong”

Pretty fascinating Friday for Latinos in film: the long-awaited theatrical release of Filly Brown, with Gina Rodriguez, Lou Diamond Phillips, Edward James Olmos and Jenni RiveraMaria Conchita Alonzo in Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem…and (officially opening yesterday) an animated version of the Cheech and Chong Movie with the voice and image of the amazing Cheech Marin. A little something for everybody…
