Music, Mystery, Melodrama and a Movie, All on Monday Night

Not as much new scripted stuff as we’re used to, but some rewarding work from Latinos:

  • Shakira presides over the play-offs, 8P on NBC
  • Could Nestor Carbonell be any creepier on Bates Motel, 10P on A&E. Probably not…
  • Cynthia Cidre’s Dallas, starring Juan Pablo di Paci, Marlene Forte, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo and many more, shines at 9P on TNT
  • Felix Solis continues his arc on The Following, 9P on FOX

Sometimes she’s blue, sometime she’s green, but Zoë Saldaña always kicks ass, and she’s great in Colombiana, showing at 8P and 10P on FXX

“Rio 2,” “Oculus” and “Perfect Sister” All Have Latinos to Laugh With, Thrill With, and be Afraid of in Theaters

Respected character actor Miguel Sandoval is part of the heavily promoted horror film Oculus, starring Karen Gillian and Katie Sackhoff.

Real-life DJ and hip Canadian Zak Santiago is Detective Gates, and he’s at the center of the sinister mystery of the Perfect Sisters starring Abigail Breslin and Mia Sorvino.

And best of all. Brazilian animator/writer/director Carlos Saldanha offers a sequel to his hit feature about the plucky (and hilarious) birds of his native land, with Latino voices, both new and returning. Look for the sounds of Jake T. Austin, Bruno MarsMiguel Ferrer, Andy Garcia, Jeffrey Garcia, George Lopez, and Rita Moreno, among many others. Here’s a recent clip that will bring back memories in far too many of us…
