Argentine-born Mia Maestro has been a presence in American film and television for over a decade. Most people probably noticed her first in Motorcycle Diaries, or a few years later when she became a regular on the cult-hit ABC spy drama Alias.
What most folks don’t know is that Mia is a classically trained vocalist (in fact, she left Argentina for Berlin at the tender age of 18 to study singing). So they were surprised by two things recently–Mia showing up as Carmen of the Denali Clan in the latest installment of the teen-dream vampire romance Twilight: Breaking Dawn. (You can’t blame her; how often does one get the chance to play a Spanish vegetarian vampire who lives in Alaska, and is a cousin of the most famous vampire of the decade?)…and by the inclusion of Mia’s song Llovera on the end credits and the soundtrack.
Since Alias, Mia appeared in the short-lived NBC series Crusoe, and has starred in a number of small independent movies. She’s got a busy future, too, with another independent called Grand Street, where she stars alongside Kelly McGillis and Renoly Santiago, and she’s part of Oliver Stone’s next big project, Savages, with Salma Hayek, Benicio del Toro, Demián Bichir, and John Travolta, among (as usual) many others, set to premiere in September 2012.
