Bunnie Rivera Steals the Show on “Suburgatory” This Season

Bunnie Rivera, an accomplished character actress on TV, kind of snuck in under the radar on ABC’s cul-de-satire Suburgatory. She’s been playing the most sought-after maid in all of Chatswin almost since the beginning, but the last few weeks she’s actually had a story arc of her own, as the two central families in the series vie for her affection and attention. The most recent episode is especially great: one of the teen girls wants her back as her nanny so bad she makes a hilariously horrible music video about “Carmen,” just to woo her home for Christmas. And throughout it all, Rivera’s Carmen seems to be the sanest person in this crazy little community. It’s a plum role for Rivera, who gets repeated opportunities to show us her warmth and her comedic skills.

We actually had a quick conversation with Bunnie about her work on the show this season, just last week. “Having the blessing to portray Carmen on Suburgatory and grow her character is a dream come true,” she told us. “The opportunity to work with such a talented cast and hilarious writers is what every actor wishes for. Carmen is on a continuing journey to find her place among these suburbanites and there are more adventures to come for her. Here’s hoping that Carmen continues to stand up for herself as she begins to hear her own voice!”

We couldn’t agree more.
