And the new TV season begins…

What’s up for the week of September 12-18?

Tuesday’s the big nightSarah Michelle Geller’s odd new series Ringer, where she plays both sides of twin sisters, one of whom is dead, premiers 9/13 at 8P on the CW (in fact, the mini-net is getting the jump on most of the majors by premiering three series featuring Latino this week). Nestor Carbonell returns to weekly TV in this half-thriller/half-just-weird new show that was commissioned and then bounced by CBS and picked up at the last minute by the CW. …Meanwhile Parenthood, the NBC family dramady that’s always on the bubble, returns with new episodes at 10P, including–we hope!–more of Sarah Ramos (whom we all to often forget, amidst all the other cast members). This is the first of NBCs shows to get started for the fall. …It’s running against Sons of Anarchy, the motorcycle-gang-dynasty drama (nothing ‘omedy’ about this one!) on FX, also at 10P. This season Fernanda Andrade and Danny Trejo will both be appearing in the series on a regular basis (is there any series more perfect for Danny? We don’t think so). …Ultimately, a total of six TV series on Monday night will have Latinos appearing regularly in the cast: the three already mentioned and NCIS on CBS, Last Man Standing on ABC, and Glee on Fox, all three opposite each other at 8P. Pretty rich representation.

Wednesday’s kind’a weird…Free Agents, Hank Azaria’s new NBC sitcom, also features comedian and crazy guy Al Madrigal. It starts this Wednesday, 9/14, after Christina Applegate’s new sitcom Up All Night. You’ll recognize Madrigal; he’s done stand-up for years and has recently been The Daily Show’s first Latino “correspondent.” Don’t know if he’ll be popping up there from now on; that show has been an incubator for comedy successes in the last few years…Next week, Modern Family, Harry’s Law, and Law & Order: SVU all join the Latino parade, but we’ll talk about them when the time comes…Meanwhile, you can see our old friend Mario Lopez hosting areally odd new reality show at 8P on the CW: H8r, where Lopez joins up with one celebrity (or more) a week to confront one of their biggest anti-fans, to see if everybody can just learn to get along. We figure this will be one of the first casualties of the season, but at least we know Mario’s got plenty of gigs to keep him going…And remember keep your eye out for the long-awaited Wednesday night return of Psych…but that’s not until October!

Thursdays all about Michael (sigh!) Trevino…Ultimately, the Latino teen hearththrob will be joined by Latinos in Community, Charlie’s Angels, Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, Private Practice, and Prime Suspect on Thursday, but this week only it’s The Vampire Diaries and nobody else. Enjoy your solitude while you can, Michael!

… and that’s it until Monday, September 19, when things really start shaking.

All in all, there will be a total of thirty television series on the networks and cable featuring Latinos in lead or supporting roles premiering in September and October…and that doesn’t include midseason replacements and the odd schedule that cable channels keep these days. Of course, we’ll be covering them all.

Pretty exciting times!
