This slightly unlikely Latino action star has two thrillers in the work…and an unusual change-up down the road.
We haven’t heard much from Freddy Rodríguez since his spy-vs-spy series, Chaos, was drowned in the bathtub by CBS last year (kept in the can until the end of the season, canceled almost before it premiered). But he’s been a busy boy.
He’s in Soldiers of Fortune along with Christian Slater, Ving Rhames, and a couple of Lord of the Rings alumni, Sean Bean (late of Game of Thrones and Missing) and Dominic Monaghan (Lost, FlashForward, and a zillion other things). It debuts for a limited run on August 3, and most likely will hit the DVD racks shortly thereafter.
He’s also finishing up a story of Navy SEALS and Osama Bin Laden called Code Name: Geronimo, scheduled for a 2013 release.
But most interesting is Freddy’s change of pace: his recent casting as “Idaho” in CBGB, the multi-starred story of the rise of the 70’s most notorious rock club. He’s in good company, with rising stars like Malin Akerman (Watchmen, Rock of Ages), Johnny Galecki (Big Bang Theory) and a couple of Harry Potter alumni, Alan Rickman and Rupert Grint (who will be playing a character with the rather remarkable name of “Cheetah Chrome.”
Freddy’s not prominent in this pretty fun trailer for Soldiers of Fortune, but it still looks both quirky and kick-ass. Check it out…
