This is not the first film about the battle of Dunkirk—it is the most impressive looking film made about it. More than 90% of the film was shot with an IMAX camera and minimum dialogue that just draws you into the emotion of the film. At times I felt like I was walking on the beach with the soldiers. It’s a feeling when watching films in an IMAX theater.

1958 film, Dunkirk

Behind the story: In May 1940, Germany advanced into France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found. At the end of this heroic mission, 330,000 French, British, Belgian and Dutch soldiers were safely evacuated.
