600 Millas (600Miles) was México’s selection for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The film has been around for a year now; it has been part of 40 film festivals and has won a few awards. Which makes the first time director, Gabriel Ripstein very proud and happy that this project has been accepted so well.

We talked about his background as a producer and writer and how passionate he feels about this film.

He talked about his two main actors, Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs) and Kristyan Ferrer (Buen Dia, Ramon, Sin Nombre).

For 600 Miles, Ferrer was his first choice for the role of Arnulfo Rubio, a young gun trafficker between the U.S. and Mexico who ends up entangled with ATF agent Hank Harris (Roth). Ferrer said it was great working with both Roth and director Ripstein.

In the United States, it is legal for any citizen to buy guns. In Mexico, it is illegal to buy, sell, or carry guns. And it is because of this contrast that this story takes place.
