It is always fun catching up with Natalie Martinez. At the FOX Winter TCA, we talked about her being back in uniform for the new series, APB. I enjoyed the episode I watched and I feel that the show could be more than your usual police procedural.

The Space Between Us starts off a bit slow but once it gets going it moves pretty well. I found the female leads, Britt Robertson and Carla Gugino to be quite compelling in their roles and fun to watch.
The plot: In this interplanetary adventure, shortly after arriving to help colonize Mars, an astronaut dies while giving birth to the first human born on the red planet–never revealing who the father is. Thus begins the extraordinary life of Gardner Elliot (Asa Butterfield)–an inquisitive, highly intelligent boy who reaches the age of 16 having only met 14 people in his very unconventional upbringing. While searching for clues about his father, and the home planet he’s never known, Gardner begins an online friendship with a street-smart girl named Tulsa (Britt Robertson).

We got to talk to some of the stars, the director Peter Chelsom, producer Richard Lewis and professor G. Scott Hubbard (science expert) about the making of the film. The fun they had and the difficulties they encountered; and you can listen in on it here. The film also stars Gary Oldman, BD Wong and Janet Montgomery.
All in all, a very sweet film and folks should read the book too.
I have many friends who are vegetarians or vegans; I am neither, but I enjoy vegetables and fruits very much. And we thought this would be a fun video to share because we are fans of Kevin Smith and we love his daughter’s name, Harley Quinn.

I had the great pleasure of talking to Fox Carney who is manager of research of the Animation Research Library. A twenty-four-year veteran of the Walt Disney Company, he has spent nearly twenty one of those years, assisting in providing access to the estimated 65 million pieces of production art and material in the ARL collection for authors, artists and Disney project teams.
It was so much fun to see some of the original art created for all the Disney animations many of us grew up watching.
After Talking with Fox, I got to talk to film historian and author, J.B. Kaufman, who has written and lectured on Disney animation, American silent film, and related topics. His books include Pinocchio: The Making of the Disney Epic, The Fairest One of All, and South of the Border with Disney; and he is coauthor, with Russell Merritt, of Walt Disney’s Silly Symphonies and the award-winning Walt in Wonderland: The Silent Films of Walt Disney.

I thought the second half of the film was much better than the beginning.

The fight scenes between stars, Jaime Foxx and Michelle Monaghan are crazy—they felt like they were out to hurt each other. The stars told us about how they did the scenes and all about the bumps and bruises they got.

For me, it is hard to watch films based on other versions that are made so well already. This version has its own take on the storyline and definitely aimed to the U.S. market.
Knowing that this was director Odar first U.S. film, he did a good job with what he had to work with. He talked to us about the making of the film and future plans. The film also stars Dermot Mulroney, David Harbour, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Scoot McNairy, Gabrielle Union, and Octavius J. Johnson. Sleepless opens January 13. — A.O.
At the time of James Baldwin’s death in 1987, he left behind only thirty completed pages of his manuscript for I Am Not Your Negro. Now, in his new documentary, filmmaker Raoul Peck (Lumumba, Sometimes in April) envisions the book James Baldwin never finished. The result is a radical, up-to-the-minute examination of race in America, using Baldwin’s original words and flood of rich archival material. I Am Not Your Negro is a journey into black history that connects the past of the Civil Rights movement to the present of Black Lives Matter.
