Disney’s Live-Action Reimagining of The Little Mermaid is Here!

We got to screen the live-action version of The Little Mermaid, and of course we didn’t know what to expect. And what a delight this film is, and it is visually stunning. I right away gave it, two thumbs up!

If you remember the animated musical classic, and loved it! I think you’ll enjoy this version also. Halle Bailey is perfect as Ariel. Her voice is amazing, when she sang “Part of your World,” you had a room full of movie critics breakout in spontaneous clapping. There was lots of good laughter through the theater, especially when Daveed Diggs (voice of Sebastian) and Awkwafina (voice of Scuttle) were on screen. Especially during the rap they did together. Which was one of the highlights of the film.

Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, was fantastic. The whole cast were enjoyable to watch. It includes Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Jacob Tremblay (voice of Flounder), Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, and Javier Bardem as King Triton.

Synopsis: The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life–and her father’s crown–in jeopardy.

The film is directed by Rob Marshall with a screenplay by David Magee. The songs feature music from Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, and new lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
