Sofia rocks the house on “Saturday Night Live”

It’s been a rough year for Saturday Night Live, with the big breakout star Kristin Wiig their one big star and half out the door, and nobody snarking at the water cooler about the latest skit. Things hit an especially low point a few weeks ago when a startlingly unprepared Lindsey Low proved to be one of the most embarrassing hosts of the decades.

But all was forgiven when Sofia Vergara hosted last weekend’s newest episode. She was charming from the opening monologue (where she thanked America for “welcoming me with open arms and pulled-down pants,” and admitted “It is every girl’s dream: One day to grow-up and marry Al Bundy.”) on through a horribly accurate imitation of Fran Drescher–without accent and with braying laugh, and beyond to a sex ed teacher, an orphan once mistaken for a box of limes, one of the Shahs of Sunset (a Latina Persian?), a correspondent for the Hunger Games, and a really dumb version of herself. (And on Hulu, you’ll see an online commercial starring Aurora Guerrero writer/director of Mosquita y Mari!). Buenas Noches, Colombia!

You can see the entire episode here on Hulu, or  NBC.com here.
