“La Golda” is Halfway Home…and You Can Get Her the Rest of the Way

Animator George Valencia and some famous friends like Judy Reyes and Rosalyn Sanchez really want this upbeat, energetic animation for kids to happen. That’s where Kickstarter (and you) come in.

There are a whole herd of Kickstarter projects out there, with more cropping up all the time, and generally we try and tiptoe away from them before anybody notices. But once in a while, there’s a project that shows real promise. La Golda! is one of them, and we’re not the only ones who think so.

Animator George Valencia was inspired by the irrepressible spirit of his own young daughter when he created La Golda!, a story about soccer, orphans, and the human spirit. Then he rounded up some great Latino talent, including Judy Reyes and Rosalyn Sanchez of Devious Maids, to help him with the voices.

“La Golda is an animation featuring an 8-year-old orphan who has been bounced around from orphanage to orphanage,” Valencia tells us. “She has two passions. One: Soccer–futbol–and Two: Building a better world for kids.”

Right now, La Golda is a pilot in the making, and its “goal,” you should pardon the expression, is to become a full-blown series. All it needs is…cash.

As of November 19, the Valencia’s Kickstarter project for La Golda! is a little less than halfway to its $70,000 goal. It’s accepting kick-ins as low as one dollar, and for just a little bit more than that, supporters can get some great incentives–everything from posters to t-shirts to tickets to the launch party to voicemail greetings by Rosalyn Sanchez. And it’s all for a good cause.

“Our mission is to encourage youth to care for others and take action,” Valencia says. No matter where you are, how young you are, children can make a difference. The characters of La Golda represent children from all over the world, and the pilot will be produced in both English and Spanish for our multi-cultural audiences.”
