“Amor crónico” A Docu-Comedy with Lots of Good Sounds

Amor CronicoI came across a trailer of this docu-comedy while I was checking out some YouTube music. And the wonderful surprise is that I was familiar with the lead actress/singer, CuCu Diamantes. She along with Grammy award winner Andrés Levin founded one of my favorite funk-fusion supergroup Yerba Buena.

Yerba Buena played together for about a decade and released two albums, the Grammy-nominated President Alien (’03) and Island Life (’05), and I have both of them.

CuCu Diamantes

The Cuban-born/New York based CuCu Diamantes and the Venezuelan-born Andrés Levin got together with Cuban-born actor/director Jorge Perugorría to make this film—which follows Diamantes as she embarks on a whirlwind tour of her home country. Amor crónico documents the first tour of Cuba by a Cuban-American in the last 50 years. It interweaves glamorous live performances with a fictional romance; the film pays tribute to the history of cinema in surreal fashion. Backed by a high energy Latin soundtrack.

Diamantes who’s solo album CuCuLand was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2009. Now check out the trailer of the film, a video of Diamantes and one of Yerba Buena below.

You can get more info on Diamantes on her website here Cucudiamantes.com.

The film is available on DVD and video on demand now.
