Rosie Perez Makes a Big impression in “Won’t Back Down”

One thing that’s certain about Rosie Perez: you can’t ignore her. It’s hard to believe it’s been twenty years since her squeaky, all-Brooklyn performance in White Men Can’t Jump and It Can Happen to You, and it’s equally easy to forget that she made her first impact in Hollywood as a choreography (she even won an Emmy for her dance work on In Living Color)…but Rosie’s still as strong and smart as she ever was, as evidenced by her work as an extremely determined mother in Won’t Back Down, the new feature with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis.

Rosie looked stunning (as usual) on the Won’t Back Down red carpet, where she talked about the movie and her role, here.

Won’t Back Down is in general release right now; you’ll be able to see her again soon as a modern-day goddess in Gods Behaving Badly (Christopher Walken as Zeus?), and she is currently filming the new Ridley Scott/Cormac McCarthy thriller The Counselor with a host of other Latino stars, including Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, John Leguizamo, and Cameron Diaz, to be released November 2013. You can also catch Rosie–or at least her memorable voice–in the animated classic The Road to El Dorado, Sunday September 30 at 11A on AMC.
