Here comes “Casa de mi Padre,” ready or not!
We had our doubts about Will Ferrell’s new movie, Casa de mi Padre. But we’re convinced: with people like Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal, and hot newcomer Genesis Rodriguez on board, this is clearly just the Latino version of his other, gleeful, broad and ultimately innocent parodies of genres, like Anchorman and Blades of Glory …

Zoë Saldaña is a
Guardian of the Galaxy
Not content with being a master (mistress?) assassin in Colombiana, the legendary Uhuru in the Star Trek reboot, or the boldest blue-skinned Na’avi on Pandora in Avatar, Dominican beauty Zoë Saldaña is now combining all of those to become a green-skinned interstellar alien ass-kicker named Gamora for the new Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy, joining Chris Pratt of The Office and David Bautista of the WWE (so far). The James Gunn-directed sci fi actioneer is scheduled for the summer of 2014. Like she doesn’t have enough to do…

David Zayas is Everywhere
David Zayas, unliked his onscreen wife/ex-wife/boss Lauren Vélez, is still part of the upcoming and possibly last season of Dexter on HBO, but he sure keeps busy during the off-season. He was in an episode of CBS’ Person of Interest last year, appeared in the pilot of ABC’s Deception and an episode of NBC’s Grimm, and he’s featured in this week’ installment of FOX’s The Following (still available for vewing this week on Hulu+, and next week for free on regular ol’ Hulu). Gina Rodriguez is a Navy Seal
(at least in a TV pilot)
Our buddy Gina Rodriguez (Filly Brown) has been cast in Wild Blue, Sony’s “upstairs/downstairs look at the working men and women aboard an aircraft carrier.” Sony’s plan is to actually film the pilot on a U.S. Navy aircraft character, an that–among other casting issues–has caused them to “push” the production out of the normal pilot season, but it’s still very much a “go” project. More as it develops…

Michael Peña Chases
The List in a New Fox Pilot
Michael Peña just never stops working. Fox’s commitment to Latino actors in admirable Latino roles continues; let’s see if any of these projects actually make it to prime time.
Ramon Rodriguez Lands
‘Gang Related’ Pilot
You remember the handsome young actor Ramon Rodriguez. He was last seen as the younger, sexier version of “Bosley” in the ill-fated reboot of Charlie’s Angels on ABC. This time around, Ramon’s a little more sexy and a lot more ethnic in the new Fox drama pilot, Gang Related, about a gang member ordered to infiltrate the San Francisco Police Department. As the press release says, “As he rises through the ranks, he must figure out how to balance his responsibility to his gang with his growing sense of allegiance to his new familia, the department’s gang task force.” It’s one of many pilots featuring Latinos in key roles. We’ll let you know how it progresses.
Amaury Nolasco Set to
Guest on Rizzoli and Isles
this Summer
…maybe more than once? TNT has just announced that Amaury Nolasco will be guesting on their mystery-lady-cop-buddy “drama” Rizzoli and Isles when it returns this summer. He will play, “Lt. Det. Rafael Martinez, newly appointed head of the Boston PD drug unit. The arrival of Martinez, who has a conflicted professional and personal past with Jane (Harmon), forces her to relive a painful experience from her past.” Plenty of potential there, and maybe more than just a one-shot. You’ll remember Nolasco from Southland and Prison Break. You’ll try to forget Work It, his disastrous ABC sitcom from last year.
